John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 18-19)
(The arrest and crucifixion) *sorry for the buzz, we had some technical difficulties* Today is a big day in the book of John - Jesus’ death. This week is heavy but it’s also so hopeful. We approach these Chapters with humility and reverence, but also with the end of the story in mind. In this episode we let the scripture speak for itself mostly, but we did pull out a few really important things we all could meditate on this week. If you’ve never read the details of the these last hours of Jesus’ life before, we highly recommend giving this a listen.
Summer Devotionals: Transitions
Today’s devotional is from one of the USC leaders - Emily King. She shares about trusting and leaning on God in times of transition and learning to rely on our identity in Him first so we can find steady ground.
Summer Devotionals: Holding Back
Today’s devotional is from Kate Lalley. Kate is one of the Bible study leaders at Clemson, which is the newest As You Are Campus (!!). This devo is such an encouragement to hold nothing back from the Lord. Have you ever felt like you’re not experiencing God the way you want to? She shares a story from the book of Acts that talks about a couple who seemed Godly on the outside, but were holding things back from God. It’s such a good reminder that God wants our whole heart, and our honesty. Listen to the end for a great example of a prayer to pray as you seek God today.
Summer Devotionals: Pray Boldly
Today’s devotional is from Mallory Mason - she graduated this year from UGA and was one of the As You Are bible study leaders. This one’s a quick and powerful word about asking God boldly as we navigate new seasons. She reads an encouragement from James 1:5-8, and reminds us that God wants to show up for us. Ask boldly and give God a chance to show up and help you with your fears.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 15-17)
(The Last Supper part 2). Today we’re looking at the rest of the scene from the Upper Room where Jesus and is disciples have their last meal together. Jesus shares some really special things with them, and then spends all of Chapter 17 praying before he goes to the garden to be betrayed and arrested. This episode is packed full of really good stuff - what it means to abide, talking specifics about the Holy Spirit, and looking specifically at how to pray based on how Jesus prays.
Summer Devotionals: Ask + Listen
Today’s devotional is from Naomi Tucker. She attended As You Are Bible study all 4 years, and just graduated this year. She has 2 encouraging verses to share from the book of James. This one is so relatable, and if you’re needing encouragement today, it’s for you!
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 13-14)
(The Last Supper) We’ve gotten to the last night of Jesus’ life. Everything from here on out is so important, but these 2 chapters specifically talk about an intimate last interaction between Jesus and his disciples (continued in Ch 15-17). What does Jesus choose to say to them, knowing He’s about to die? I guess you’ll have to listen and find out :) This week is a little longer so if you want to listen in 2 parts, Chapter 13 ends at 27:13.
Summer Devotionals: Purpose & Perspective
Our devo today is from Simms O’Quinn - one of the founding members of the first As you Are Bible study. What Simms has to share is SO important for all of us to remember today. Summer Devotionals: God Provides
Today we have a devotional from AYA alumni Carley Dudley. Carley led an As You Are bible study while she was in college at the University of Georgia & is an absolute GEM. She’s sharing today about ways that the Lord provides in every season, but particularly in the hard times we go through. I love her encouragement to look for Him in our day-to-day lives, and prompting us to ask Him to show us how He’s speaking to us.
Summer Devotionals: Lost & Found
Have you ever felt lost? Today in our devo we look at Luke 15 (the parable of the lost sheep and the parable of the lost coin) and remember that our need for God is constant, and His love and detailed care for us is undeniable.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 9-10)
This week on the podcast we’re talking about John Chapters 9-10. Chapter 9 is all about the man who was born blind that Jesus healed on the Sabbath. We focus on what it looks like to strengthen our faith through steady encounters with Jesus. Chapter 10 is about God as our good shepherd, and for that portion of the conversation we really leaned into what it looks like to remember that we are like sheep, and how to let God really lead us through our tendency to stray.
Summer Devotionals: Seasons
Our first summer devotional is here! For the whole Summer we’re going to be sharing 5 minute devotionals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today Anna talks about seasons & how the Lord can be our constant no matter what we’re walking through.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 8)
We’re about 1/3 of the way through the book of John! Today we’re focusing in on the story of the woman who was caught in adultery. But today instead of looking at her, we’re going to look a little more closely at Jesus’ interaction with the Pharisees surrounding this story and what it means for us, and about Him.
