What I Wish I Knew Before Senior Year
It’s the last episode of this series, and we’re talking all about Senior Year. We got to interview Salem Jones from UNC and Bonnie Chapman from USC about their Senior year last year. We really dove into expectations vs. reality, how to get the most out of your last year, and how to go deeper in your relationship with God through the unknowns. We loved this conversation & no matter what year you are I think you can gain something from their perspectives.
Summer Devotionals: Hope in God’s Character
It’s hard to believe summer is over!! Thank you for tuning in over the past 3 months for these devotionals. It’s wild to me how we barely gave any direction on what each one would be about, and yet each devotional was so unique and different from the last. God has been moving in the hearts of girls in our community and I’m so proud of y’all for engaging with Him and sharing. Today is the last one of the summer, and Piper O’Quinn (AYA founding member & Bible study leader) shares about learning to have hope in God’s character through all seasons. This is the perfect one to end the summer on. We hope you can carry this with you into the Fall.
Summer Devotionals: Temporary vs. Eternity
Today’s devotional is from Emily Berryman, a senior at UGA and Bible study leader to the Juniors. Emily shares today about the eternal vs. the temporary - the horizontal compared with the vertical. All Earthly pleasures can be gifts from God, but ultimately they’re not what we were designed to live for. These things were created to POINT US to the one we’re made to live for. This is so encouraging!
What I Wish I Knew Before Junior Year
This week on the podcast we’re talking all about Junior year. We’re so excited we get to chat with UGA leader Emily Berryman and Clemson leader Kate Lalley, who were Juniors last year. We got to chat about everything from unexpected changes of plans, to boys, to how to combat FOMO and trust God with your future. This is such a great conversation!
Summer Devotionals: Discipline in Love
Today we have a devotional from Clemson AYA Leader Katheryn Ann Batson on discipline. She shares from Hebrews 12 all about why the Lord disciplines us, what that looks like, and why it’s actually a wonderful, loving, and protective thing. She reminds us shame is not from the Lord, that his correction is always lovingly pointing us toward holiness. This is SO good and you don’t want to miss this perspective today.
Summer Devotionals: Such a Time as This
Today’s devotional is from BAMA As You Are leader Emma Tanner. Emma shares the story of Esther and reminds us that no season is a place holder or a waste of time, but that God has something specific and intentional for us in each day. I love her encouragement to all of us - a reminder that God may have placed us where we are for “a time such as this.” Hope you walk away empowered and encouraged.
What I Wish I Knew Before Rush
This series has been so fun! We’re on Week 3 and it’s time to talk about Rush. We invited some of our favorite people in the world (and founding members of As You Are) on for the interview this week, and their perspectives were so helpful! Each of these girls have been though Rush, and also been Rush Chair for their sororities. Welcome Piper O’Quinn, Virginia Adair, and Caroline Elkins. You don’t want to miss this episode if you’re going through Rush anytime soon.
Summer Devotionals: The Heart of Jesus
Today’s devotional is from BAMA leader Hadley Smith. She talks about the heart of Jesus - how He is both gently and lowly - and what that means about his posture toward us. This is so good!
Summer Devotionals: Comparison
Today’s devotional is from UGA leader Macy Johnson, and it’s all about comparison. She reminds us how destructive comparison can be, how counter-intuitive it is when we realize how God sees us, and gives a great challenge to combat comparison going into this new semester.
What I Wish I Knew Before Sophomore Year
Don’t we all wish we had a window into our next year? Well that’s just what we’re going for here. We interviewed rising Juniors Rocky Schaffer and Macy Johnson all about their Sophomore years, and you don’t want to miss this conversation, especially if you’re a rising 2nd year!
Summer Devotionals: Faking It
Our devotional today comes from UGA leader Emily Harrison. Have you ever felt the pressure to fake like you’re doing better than you are in your life, your relationships or even your faith? Welcome to the club. We all feel the pressure to be perfect, and sometimes it can be excruciating. Luckily, we have an amazing invitation from Jesus to walk in our imperfections with our heads held high because all our identity rests not one what we accomplish but what HE accomplished. Such a good reminder today that His grace really is enough and that accepting our need for it is a huge part of our journey.
Summer Devotionals: Making Time
Today’s devotional is from AYA alum Mary Nichols Lollis. She graduated in 2023 and is bringing us a devotional from her first semester of PA school. This is SUCH a good reminder that we all need - as important as everything else seems, our relationship with God is really the most important. She shares some really great tips on how to refocus and get our perspectives shifted back to what matters most.
What I Wish I Knew Before Freshman Year
Do you ever wish you could know what something is going to be like before you did it? Well that’s the idea behind this new series called “What I Wish I Knew Before…”
This is the first episode in a 5 part series, (all 4 years of college and a special episode on Rush). Today Emily & Anna sit down to interview rising Sophomores Louise Adair and Ann Woodke all about their Freshman year. We talked about everything from boys to school to rush and living in the shoeboxes that are freshman dorms. It was so much fun.
Ann & Louise will be leading the Freshman AYA Bible Study next year at BAMA, so this is a great way to get to know them if you’re a rising Freshman!
Summer Devotionals: Direction Protection
Today’s devotional is from UNC leader Eliza Gesse. Eliza shares a story from the old Testament about King David and King Saul. Have you ever questioned God’s plan for you? This is some really good perspective about just how in control God really is, even when we may not be able to see it.
Summer Devotionals: Joyful Spirit
Today’s devotional is from Bentlee Burchell - one of the AYA leaders at Bama. She shares on what it looks like to ask for a joyful spirit, and let the Lord change our hearts as we find joy through Him.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 20-21)
I can’t believe we’ve made it to the last week of the book of John. Today’s episode is full of up as we look at the resurrection and what Jesus does as he encounters His disciples before He ascends to the Father. We talk about God’s desire for restoration and abundance for us, His unique plan for each of us, and we even touch a little on comparison.
Summer Devotionals: Receiving First
Today’s devotional is from USC leader Claire Peebles. Have you ever felt like you were doing all the right things in your faith but your heart still is missing something? Claire talks about verses from John (13:1-9) when Jesus is washing his disciples feet and reminds them that if He doesn’t wash them, they have no part in Him. What does this mean? Recognizing our need for Jesus to forgive us and make us whole comes before anything else. Tune in for more on this from Claire.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 18-19)
(The arrest and crucifixion) *sorry for the buzz, we had some technical difficulties* Today is a big day in the book of John - Jesus’ death. This week is heavy but it’s also so hopeful. We approach these Chapters with humility and reverence, but also with the end of the story in mind. In this episode we let the scripture speak for itself mostly, but we did pull out a few really important things we all could meditate on this week. If you’ve never read the details of the these last hours of Jesus’ life before, we highly recommend giving this a listen.
Summer Devotionals: Transitions
Today’s devotional is from one of the USC leaders - Emily King. She shares about trusting and leaning on God in times of transition and learning to rely on our identity in Him first so we can find steady ground.
